03 September 2008, The Ministry of Information and Communications officially introduced Vietnam Information and Communication Technology Awards (Vietnam ICT Awards) in the press video conference between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This is the first-ever Information and Communication Technology Awards to be held at the national level.

Dr. Tran Duc Lai, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Chief Director of the Board of Organization Vietnam ICT Awards 2008, stated: ''The Awards will be granted according to specific criteria which have been established overtly, objectively and logically. Via these criteria, the Awards endeavor to best recognize the contributions of organizations and enterprises in the general progress of Vietnam's information and communication technology.''

Also in his speech, Deputy Minister Tran Duc Lai revealed that the Board of Organization was preparing to undertake a public poll in order to gather opinions and ideas from organizations, enterprises and prestigious experts in the field of information and communication technology as well as to obtain public comments on the evaluating criteria system.

Vietnam ICT Awards are held on the non-profit principle, enterprises, agencies and organizations who wish to take part in the Awards are not subject to any kind of financial contributions. The budget of the Awards is managed by the Ministry of Information and Communications with the sponsorship of several enterprises.

At the press conference, the 5 representatives of VNPT, Intel Vietnam, IBM Vietnam and Cisco Vietnam signed the Agreement in which these enterprises committed to sponsor the selection, evaluation and awarding of Vietnam ICT Awards 2008.

The list of Vietnam ICT Awards 2008 winners will be officially announced and honored by the Ministry of Information and Communications in early 2009.
